Maria Menounos
As she was caring for her mother, who is suffering from stage 4 brain cancer, Maria found out she was in the midst of an illness in her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. In the cover article of PEOPLE, Menounos reveals that she experienced headaches and lightheadedness during sets. "My speech was becoming blurred, and I was having difficulty comprehending the teleprompter". A MRI showed that Menounos had a size golf ball-sized meningioma brain tumor, which was pressing on her facial nerves. Menounos booked an appointment with her mother's doctor the renowned Neurosurgeon Dr. Keith L. Black, and they scheduled surgery for June 8-her 39th birthday. "He said, 'I'm 98 percent sure it's a benign tumor, however, we'll only know that when we're in the hospital and see what happens,'" she says. After the lengthy surgery which lasted about seven hours the surgeon Dr. Black was able to eliminate 99.9 percent of the tumour. It was considered to be benign. "He advised that there's about a six to seven percent probability that it'll occur again," she says. This is my most reliable option. Returning home from a six-day hospital stay, Menounos recuperating and enjoying some time with her mother, Litsa who's most recent MRI indicates that her cancer remains stable.
